What is the real truth when it comes to using 2x4 or 2x6 lumber and where should each be used in the home?

Hi Pamela,
2 x 6 lumber would typically only be used for exterior wall framing.
2 x 4 vs. 2 x 6 is more complicated than 1st meets the eye. The cost difference of using either one can be calculated by having the lumber supplier (or your builder) figure the difference.
Don’t forget to have them (him) include deeper trim materials for windows and exterior doors, as well as added insulation costs…read the rest on my “Lumber Quality” page.
